LOKOJA—Kogi State Police Command has paraded seven persons for allegedly
posing as bishop, pastors and prophets during a revival programme in
Lokoja, capital of Kogi State.
Those paraded include Bishop Bamidele Abraham of Eagle Kingdom Church, Lokoja and Pastors Chucks Ingalis Kelvin, Chinedu Okosisi, Samson Prince, Osita Chuckwu, Samuel Ike and Nnenanaya Anthony Ikechukwu. They were said to have come from Port Harcourt, Rivers State into Lokoja.
State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Kastina who paraded the suspects said they were arrested while conducting ‘deliverance’ for people at a revival programme organised by one of them in Lokoja.
According to Muhammed, Bishop Bamidele who is the pastor-in-charge of Eagle Kingdom Church, Lokoja was said to have contacted Pastor Chuks from Port Har-court to help raise money for his book launch.
Sources said Chucks, who was an expert in such ventures came with members of his team, some of who acted like mermaid; deaf and dumb persons while others claimed to have been afflicted with other sicknesses during the revival to sway the sympathy of those in attendance.
However, a member of the congregation who felt uncomfortable with the way the pastors were conducting the deliverance, reported them to the police which moved in swiftly and arrested the suspects.
One of the suspects, Pastor Chuks, however defended his action saying, “This is not robbery, its pure professionalism. Every profession has its own way of surviving. The police have their own way, the lawyers have their own way; even you journalists have your own way; what I did is pure business and survival instinct.’’
Also, Pastor Osita Chukwu who posed as mermaid said she was promised N16, 000 while leaving Port Harcout to Lokoja but they only got N1, 000 pending the conclusion of the botched revival programme.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Command Tuesday paraded a nine-man syndicate of suspected armed robbers, including a security guard and his two brothers. The gang allegedly stole exotic vehicles from the employer of the security guard and sold the vehicles for N10 million.
The vehicles, which have been recovered by the police were a Fortune SRS Jeep and four 2011 Toyota Camry cars, stolen from an Indian company in Lagos.
The state command’s spokesperson, DSP Ngozi Briade disclosed that the vehicles were recovered from Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa-Ibom State, by detectives attached to the Lagos State Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, led by SP Abba Kyari.
According to her, the incident, which occurred on May 19, was reported at the Area ‘J’ Command, Lekki, by the management of the company before it was transferred to SARS.
Briade said the security guard, who allegedly masterminded the operation, connived with his brothers, who later co-opted others that stole the vehicles and disposed of them to a receiver in Akwa-Ibom State.
The police spokesperson, however, disclosed that the vehicles were recovered in batches following the confessional statements of the suspects, adding that the suspects were in police custody, except one who was currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
She said the suspects would be charged to court for robbery as soon as investigation was concluded.
However, Vidani, while expressing happiness over the outstanding performance of the Police, stated that he was amazed about how the police was able to recover the vehicles and arrest the suspects within a short time.
The Indian businessman observed that the Nigeria Police could do much more, if given the necessary support and logistics.

The University of Lagos has introduced a new badge to discredit the
renaming of the institution after the acclaimed winner of the June 12,
1993 presidential election, the late Chief Moshood Abiola by the Federal
Government.
The badge, which carries the inscription, “UNILAG forever,” was distributed to members of staff and students at a news conference by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday.
According to the chairman of the University of Lagos branch of the union, Dr Oghenekaro Ogbinaka, who was accompanied by his counterparts from the University of Ibadan and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Drs Segun Ajiboye and Biodun Badmus and the National Treasurer of ASUU, Dr Demola Aremu, the badge is one of the steps being taken by the union to work against the renaming of institution.
He said, “we have mapped out plans to persistently reject the renaming of the University of Lagos. The renaming of the University of Lagos after 50 years of existence, is one of such actions that have been taken to an absurd level.”
He further said that government’s action would be challenged legally, while describing the pronouncement of President Goodluck Jonathan as a wrong and immoral decision intended to gain cheap popularity.
Following the submission of the amended bill that set up the University of Lagos to the National Assembly by the president recently, the academics vowed to storm the public hearing to thwart the decision of the government.
According to Ogbinaka, the union has gathered the support of eminent lawyers, including Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) and Wole Olanipekun (SAN) to argue its case both at the law court and during the public hearing.
In another development, the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers has condemned the renaming of UNILAG, calling on the government to rescind its decision.

I got married few years ago to a pastor, a gentleman,loving and caring
husband. When he came to ask my hand in marriage, my family was very
supportive of us getting married because of his lovable personality. He
lives in the UK, so after the wedding, he arranged all the travel
documents for me to join him there. When I got to the UK, I gained
admission to study a four year course. I am in my 2nd year at the

$620,000 bribe allegedly collected by Mr. Farouk Lawan from businessman,
Femi Otedola.
Jagaba, whose committee oversees the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, wrote the Speaker of the House, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, denying to be in possession of the exhibit.
Part of the letter, dated June 19, which The PUNCH obtained on Tuesday, reads, “I wish to categorically and unequivocally state that there was never a time I was in possession of the sum of $620,000 or any other exhibits (in my personal capacity or official capacity as Chairman, House Committee on Drugs/Narcotics and Financial Crimes) relating to the subject matter of the above investigation.
“I hope this explanation lays to rest once and for all the claims that I or my committee is in possession of the sum of $620,000 purportedly given as bribe to the Ad-Hoc Committee on Monitoring of Fuel Subsidy Regime.”
Findings indicated that Jagaba was responding to a directive by Tambuwal asking him to respond to a letter from the office of the Inspector-General of Police.
The letter from the IG’s office was signed by the Commissioner of Police, Special Task Force on Subsidy Bribe Investigation, Mr. Ali Amodu.
It requested Tambuwal to retrieve and submit to the police, “the sum of $620,000, which Farouk Lawan admitted to have collected from a marketer and handed over to the House Committees on Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption.”
The letter was dated June 15 and carried a reference number, CR:3000/IGP.SEC/STF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.2/373.
On the other hand, the speaker’s letter to Jagaba was signed by his Special Adviser (Legal&Legislative), Mr. Chile Igbawua.
Tambuwal simply forwarded the IG’s letter to Jagaba with his own letter, directing him to respond to the issue raised therein.
The letter with reference number, NASS/SPK/LEG/VOL.II/294, stated, “The content of the said letter (IG’s) is self-explanatory and the Honourable Speaker has directed that you react urgently to the request in paragraph 1(I) Therefore to facilitate his action.”
As the development unfolded, the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Information Communication Technology, Mr. Yusuf Tajudeen, commended President Goodluck Jonathan and Tambuwal for their commitment to implementing the report of the subsidy probe.
Tajudeen, who represents Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency of Kogi State, said it was heartwarming that Jonathan promised the nation not to sweep the report under the carpet.
Meanwhile, some youths staged a protest at the gate of the National Assembly on Tuesday demanding detailed investigation into the bribery scandal.
Their coordinator, Mr. Solomon Adodo, said Nigerian youths were unhappy with developments at the National Assembly.
